Serological Tests for Syphilis to the Prostitutes in Pusan in 1967-1968

Abstract
|
|
|
The tests used for syphilis serology were the cardiolopin microflocculation and complement fixation tests (commonly referred to as the VDRL and Kolmer-Wassermann tests). In these tests to the prostitutes´ sera were examined for the presence of reagin associated with syphilis at the certain limited area in Pusan in 1967-1968. The results obtained are as follows.
1. A total of 410 sera were examined in 1967; positive reaction with the VDRL in 25.14%, and with Kolmer-Wassermann test in 17.7%, respectively.
2. A total of 387 were examined in 1968; positive reaction with the VDRL in 14.72% and with Kolmer-Wassermann test in 13.96% respectively.
3. The comparative results of seropositive of syphilis in 1968 was lower than in 1967, may it because of intensive therapy to the prostitutes at the local VD clinics.
